Professor of Nutrition and Food Science, University of Reading · Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences · Director, Chemical Analysis Facility
I study how diet influences health, with a focus on objective measurement of dietary intake — developing and validating biomarkers that capture what people actually eat rather than what they report. My work connects nutritional biochemistry, epidemiology, and analytical chemistry, from measuring flavanol intake with nutritional biomarkers to using stable isotope ratios as long-term dietary tracers.
I am Co-I on FoodSEqual (BBSRC), developing biomarker-based methods for dietary assessment across diverse populations.
I write a Substack newsletter on nutrition science and food policy, and contribute regularly to public and media discussion of dietary research.
